1780: Archway of "Spread Eagle" built at

1781: Uranus discovered by Sir William

1783: Greenwich Hospital School (now part of
Davenport House) built.
1801: 1 January - First Ordinance Survey Map
published based on
Bradley's Meridian. It is still based on this old meridian which creates
some confusion. In 1999 the Ordinance Survey started to produce maps
showing the 'modern' meridian of Sir George Biddell Airy
