1685-1688
King James II was a king that was trying to
rule the parliament and make England Roman Catholic. He was born in October
14, 1633 in London, England and died in France on Sept. 6, 1701.
In 1672, James declared that he had become a
Roman Catholic . Parliament became so angry with him that they passed the
Test Act which forced his resignation. In 1673 King James got married to a
Catholic princess.
In 1679 it was rumoured that King James
became involved in the Catholic plot and was told to leave England. However,
he was invited to return just a few months later. Happily, his daughter Mary
was both his heir and a Protestant so that some of his countrymen were
mollified.
In 1688, however, his son was born and as he
was baptised Catholic, the Glorious Revolution was begun. A final defeat at
the Battle of Boyne in 1690 ended his reign and he spent the remainder of
his life in France. |
